Mr. Goebel provided an inspiring take on leadership and communication based on his USAF experiences as a DO, and Commander at both the squadron and wing level. His message was completely transparent in delivery and highlighted some of the things he did right in his career and things that he thinks he could have handled better. The honesty with which he discussed his career and decisions was appreciated by everyone in attendance and set the tone for the engaging question and answer session that followed. In conversations after, I know that everyone, regardless of rank, took something away from the Professional Development session. His honesty and transparency was refreshing and benefited everyone that attended. As we look to mold leaders into what the DOD needs for Great Power Competition, sessions and discussions such as this are invaluable in developing our leaders
Ed, consummate professionals like you make my job easy! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and expertise with our audience!
Thank you for taking the time yesterday to provide your thoughts on leadership to our members in the 461st Air Control Wing. Your message was on point, and many of your leadership vignettes had a direct impact on me during my career in the Air Force...It was extremely refreshing to hear how you explained your gradual shift in leadership style over time, and how your perspectives on leadership have evolved...and have had time to reflect on things that you did well, and other things that you would now do differently. I think that your candor and openness in the discussion was something that our airmen need to hear as they grow into future leaders for our Air Force. Thank you for your passion, and commitment to continue to mentor and lead even after hanging up the uniform!
Hearing Ed speak, was that of a man who has made hard decisions and made mistakes as a leader. His transparency and openness gave real perspective in how to lead through complex problems that our leaders face. I’ve listened to plenty of seminars where theory-based approaches are supposed to be the solution. However, in the real world where human capital is involved real world experience is what matters. Mike Tyson said, “Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face.” Ed Goebel has taken the hits and is using what he has learned to better the next generation of leaders both in and out of uniform. You will gain insight and awareness from one of his seminars. Highly recommend!
